• High speed and combat capability analysis of two great fighters. Summary....Phantom was slower and had less range and maneuverability than the Delta Dart. Very interesting comparison with former air force pilot reminiscing about his personal experiences with the two aircraft.

Coercive collective action in the name of the greater good not only is immoral—who decides who has the gun?—it also is destructive of human happiness and ruinous of human potential.

    That's awesome! haha

  • Multi-role aircraft such as the F4 please the pencil pushers....but the F4 struggled against the Mig 21 and Mig 17 aircraft. Single-role air-superiority fighters would have fared better...

Oh stop... the F4 was a world beater, it was the tactics that needed work.

After the initial failures the F4's still finished in Vietnam with a record of 107 to 33 against Migs.

  • They only built like 350 of them too. But there are a lot of factors. The F-4 could also operate off of carriers and it had overall much more usefulness. we could have used F106s as cover for the F4s though... as more of a pure fighter.

  • The F4 had a major drawback, they had no guns. It was solely a Bomb And Missile platform.

Lemme say that again... I don't care. If. The accusations against Trump. Are factual. Or not.

  • The F106 could only carry 4 missiles. No gun and no bombs.

Built to different mission requirements...high altitude, long range interception/air superiority.

A kill to loss record of 107 to 33 would have been considered to be unacceptable in WW II and Korea. That's roughly 3 to 1.

  • They were deployed in North America and Europe.

The US military bet all their chips on the F 4. Whether or not that was the right decision is debateable.

US losses in air to air combat, for the first half of the war in Vietnam, were a horrendous 2 to 1. Special training in energy maneuvering and air-to-air tactics were employed to redress that problem. Randal Cunningham used vertical tactics almost exclusively in combat against the more nimble Migs. These tactics had been employed by Hellcats and Corsairs against the Zero...tactics that had been all but forgotten since WW II.
