If you put your clock at the center of the round earth grav and stretch the hands to the surface where we live they will be moving just as fast as you said. Of course even at that speed we will only be moving at one revolution per day, far slower than even 1 rpm.

Centrifugal force is calculated by (as I believe you have posted previously) Cf= V^2/r
The stress has to do with the force applied to the geometry of the rim.

Diameter and radius are fundamental properties of a circle.
A speed of a million miles per hour and a radius of infinity is motion along a straight line, hence no centrifugal force at all.

I cannot attest to Holdens soul one way or rhe other. I'd have to hear him play. It's common for engineers to come off as stiff and robotic with a sharp black and white view of the world. Doesn't necessarily mean they are souless, just calculated in action.
