I have designed machinery where centrifugal force was a concern and had to be calculated. One of the limiting factors on land speed record cars is whether or not wheels would be able to handle sonic speeds.
If a say 3 foot diameter wheel has a 700 mph rim speed...
A 3 foot diameter wheel had a 9.24 foot circumference... that makes 6536 rpm
so, Centrifugal force is calculated by Ac = v2 / r or its equivalent = ω2 r
ω being the spin rate in radians, and there are 6.28 radians per rev.
Now we have to worry about units of measure here, so 6536 rpm ---> 108.9 rps
108.9 * 6.28 = 684.1 Rad/sec
6.84.1^2 = 467,989 R^2/Sec^2
divide that by r or 1.5 feet, 311,993 ft/second squared
divide that by 32.2 ft / sec^2 as the force of 1 g and we see that the rim of a LSR car needs to withstand about 9700 g's
That's certainly something that needs to be taken into consideration.
