My crap DCS Thread

  • The good old days of alt-f4.

We were doing a 40 man raid in Molten Core way back in the first year of WoW. I had a gnome mage. We were going to summon someone into the instance and so the Warlock created a portal that looks a lot like the Mage's portal. I couldn't resist and put portal to Ironforge or somewhere and of course someone clicked on it instead of the Warlock summoning portal.

  • Was working on ACM with my brother in DCS and made this little video to show him how to use the gun. The F-15C is one of the survey type planes in DCS. It's also one of their early planes. Eager for the F-15E.

  • For you guys that have a TrackIR and also use the Track Clip Pro, when the clip breaks use Sugru to fix it. It's a moldable glue that turns to rubber when it dries and so far the fix for my Clip has been great.

Drop the brick Rick, it ain't no trick, get yourself free.

  • DCS Free to play event - try any (ie all of the modules) for free for 2 weeks for each module, over a period of 6 months. Once that 6 months is up, you can restart for another 6 months. This should allow every DCS player to try every module they don't own. Pretty slick deal, I bet they capture a LOT of new sales from this. Hope it works out for ED.

Looks like handy stuff. I just ordered some. I made several clips with my 3D printer though, trying out the different designs.

  • Heh, I had several of the Track Clip pros break myself. I spoke to Natural Point on the phone, the guy there told me that they had a large shipment freeze during shipping, and the material did NOT react well to this, making them very brittle. They didn't know about this until after they starting selling them and getting a huge number of returns, at least that's what he said when I asked why the efff they decided to let them get into the market in that condition. Anyhow, I had one break just from me picking it up off the top of my pc and gently bumping it against the side of the monitor beside that tower. "Ting", snap, break. Ridiculous.

Anyhow, I'll try some of that stuff myself, I'd bought a few aftermarket battery powered track clip replacements from Delanclip, but it'd be nice to fix the originals that have fractured.

When I realized the new one was broken in the package I wondered why they are using what looks to be ABS plastic instead of Delrin. Delrin shouldn't be as brittle as ABS and it should be more resilient to repeated locking/unlocking.

I also did a Google search on this and found out the locking mechanism is VERY brittle and that this is a huge problem. I saw comments like, "if the locking mechanism isn't broke it will be", "use black tape", "I'm an expert at getting it taped back on".....on and on and on.
