I have a gas/fake fireplace. Use a metal firepit we bought at Lowes for the patio. Gonna build a fireplace off the patio next spring. Been looking at youtube videos for that. Something like this I think.
You can fabricate your own.
My fireplace is mostly for looks although I burn maybe a quarter of a cord a year in it. I only use it for a few hours a day on the coldest days.

You could make a kerosene stove as well.
Easy stuff.
I like a nice open fireplace where you can watch the wood burn. Primal, soothing.
Yeah... that is why I like my fireplace... has a pretty big firebox for a home

This is similar to what we have, heats the whole 2 1/2 story house from the basement, goes thru s prodigious amount of wood (which Barb has been splitting and stacking for the last few weeks)
The one we bought 15-20 years ago has been submerged a half dozen times, have had firebox welded on once, replaced squirrel cage twice, about to order a third. We paid $650 or so for the one we have, new is about $2500...shit. Prolly just keep getting current one welded on, replace sheet metal as needed
I could put up with a lot of ugly for the difference between $650 and $2500

The major point of it is it blasts out enough air to feed a ducted ac system
I love my wood stove. it's kinda small'ish, but keeps my little ass house at 80f during the coldest days we have here in pfrnj. if I had room, i'd buy an old and bigger stove
Howdy yankee
howdy. what's cookin'?
BJ needs your phone number. Be prepared for an hour plus.
I did not type that. I haven't been here.
eh. I could talk the whole dam day away on the phone, lolol
I have had pellet stoves, a buck stove, have a furnace that runs off lp. Now I'm going to say this right now, Soapstone is the way to go. Switched to a mansfield hearthstone a couple years ago. Best decision I have made, heats the house very well. In fact if you arent careful you will be opening windows.
Also, I will say this about soapstone, it does not roast you alive when you get near it like a cast or steel stove does. It is like a soft heat.
Soapstone?
I think Bj and I have run the batteries down on our phones a couple of times.
