Ford vs Ferrari....

  • Ok.. this should have been made into a movie a long time ago. Another would be the story of Old Yeller (a model T bodied hot rod that kicked the shit out of every high dollar sports car)

I am really bummed that the cast has as main characters the two most hysterical anti American piles of shit in Hollywood but... they are good actors.. .not great.. great actors don't go as over the top as these two but.... good.. .watchable.. pros. I met Shelby... they could have picked someone better to play him. but I am looking forward to this movie.

  • Shelby was the man.

So was Enzo a few years earlier.

Ford the industrialist vs. Ferrari the race car driver and enthusiast.

Great story, but will it be a great movie?

  • Thanks... I get that but he is from Hollywood for a long time now.. he does not make movies in whales.. he does all his anti American bullshit while he is right here.

Try to be a bit more globalist... sheesh....

  • curly.. no idea.. It was one hell of a story tho. Enzo actually did dismiss Ford.. the insults he said to Ford were most likely made up tho... Pretty sure Enzo did not make fun of the Ford factory or call him 'fat" Enzo was more afraid of Duntov who worked for Chevrolet.. Duntov damn near kicked his ass at the 24 hours with Vettes that were using 1954 chevy sedan suspensions and brakes!! LOL but.. they were extremely fast.. they pulled away from everything on the straights

Chevy got out of racing.. but .. they had some unreal powertrains.. McClaren seen it. NASCAR banned a few chevy powerplants (for actual rule violations to be fair)

Racing.. it is like socialism vs capitalism in a way... Big American car companies get into it but it is very expensive. And the public is not behind em.. most race car efforts in America are private with covert support from the rouge engineers at the companies and.. some support so far as discount parts etc.

The Ford vs Ferrari thing was real... Ford said.. fuck them guys. we are gonna kick their snotty eye tie asses.. Shelby was a big laconic Texan who knew race cars and was a huckster.. very much like Trump in many ways.. I met him.. he was a man of the people.

The American racing scene is...........well.......very American.. stuff built in garages by guys with high school educations that kicked ass.

  • Oh and if you want a modern car movie not blemished by SJW bullshit, Need For Speed is awesome.

  • curly... to me? nothing is more American that the garage stuff.. True story with witnesses.. one day the pres of the porche club and I were at a bar Out in the sticks. we were joking around.. he said "that El Camino is really nice! some day I would like one for chores" I said.. your Porche is nice too but a bit flashy.. so we got on to talking and it ended that I admitted he could probly take me on corners with no problem.. even tho I had some pretty fancy brake and suspension stuff.. but that I would kick his ass on the straights. LOL he said that he had twin turbos and super kryptonite valves etc etc..

Ok.. I had a 461" Big block chevy with a 6 speed and 12 bolt posi in .337 gears.. with the biggest tires that would fit in the wheel wells. "said SS396" on the fenders and looked sorta like a stock SS... We found a straight.. he kinda jumped the gun.. he kicked my ass in first and second. but that big block pulled like a fucker. By the time I got in third? i was pulling so hard it looked like he had given up.. my speedometer was useless as it went to 120 mph only.. At sanctioned drag meets the car did 12.20 in the quarter mile.. but on the street it was a tad better in my opinion. By the time I hit 5th I was 5 car lengths ahead and he really did let off. To say he was shocked was an understatement.. but he was really really a good sport about it.

I believe mike and a few others on this board have driven this car with me telling em.. "wait till you hit ten mph and then punch it.. if you feel you are losing it just let off but do not touch the brakes." Most people have no clue what 550 foot pounds or more of torque and a real six speed can do. But.. hell.. it is cool as shit.. glad I built that car.

The Healey tho? that fucker... for 30 years it tried to kill me...

  • Curly.. I will admit that watching modern racing makes me feel left in the dust so to speak. I am talking stuff I or my buddies can build in our garages.. Our time has passed.. no doubt.. not gonna argue. I could not drive (at my best) the supercars of racing today.

I am just glad to have lived in the day where we could build something in the garage that kicked the crap out of whatever someone with real money could buy off the showroom floor.. As such.. Shelby and Duntov are heroes to me. The idea behind the Healey tho.. ironically enough was to beat Cobras... LOL

Me too. I really like Fastest Car on Netflix. Captures that exact sentiment.

Now you're just kissing up to Dad, brother...

  • You should try to find Need For Speed somewhere. Half the movie is about driving across America in a Shelby Mustang pursued by the cops and hunted by "freelancers" to avenge the death of a friend (the clip I posted earlier)...

    It's a great flick.

  • Dad is on board with this... he and sis are talking about how we can build an El Camino that will scare every other square head they know..

Oh.. outlaw drag racing is big here.. I actually got banned from Sacramento raceway.. for my 12.20 time.. It was too fast for a car with no roll bar.

  • We're all square heads in my family... "Be there or be square." Well "there" is someplace else... We're military family type stuff.

Btw. Lil sis is in Bali, Indonesia now with her BF, doing her charity thing... She posted these on Instagram so I suppose it is OK to share...

Well this is who we are...

  • Lol.. yeah.. that is pretty much me.. those days are on the way out except... speed parts for things like the Ford and LS motors are getting cheap and easy.. a 700hp mustang is not difficult.. a hot rod with a 800 Hp Ls is also possible.

A 500 hp daily driver 70's truck is childs play.. A crate motor from any dealer that make 700-800 hp is easy peasy.. lots of old cars to put one in...

But..yesterday I seen a 48 Ford pickup with a 'hot rodded' old Ford flathead V8 HP? gonna guess 200 or so but.. cool as hell.

  • Will I drive or even own a cobra? and pull into a gas station with it? most likely not.

    lazs

I guy I worked with owns a Cobra that he bought with a buddy back in the 60's for like 6k. He bought out his buddy when the buddy went to college.

Now he's retired from his electrical business and his Cobra is probably 30% of his retirement savings.

if I remember my logarithms, that's like a 7% + compounded investment that a 18 yr old made, and it's extra cool to boot.
