I think there should be one tax bracket for everyone, roughly 15%. Corporate Taxes and Capital Gains should also be about 15%. Fedzilla needs to be cut off at the knees budget wise, and there needs to be a law that they must balance budgets.

I like a modified flat income tax.
Some moderate amount like maybe a $20K standard deduction and then x% of the rest.
Don't care if you're married with kids or owe interest on a home loan, just x% of income above 20k.

Income taxes are not just about getting money for the government. they are about control.... some is benign....even helpful.... it can be argued that rewarding home ownership and rewarding marriage and raising kids and sending them to college are all useful things for the nation.
Sooo... flat taxes do not punish or reward anyone.... double edged sword. On the one hand it could contribute to destroying the housing industry which is a big part of the economy and.... also further damage marriage and child rearing...
The good news about flat taxes and say sales only taxes is that everyone knows what is going on... it is very simple to see just how much you are paying and any raise in your rates gets caught right away.....people would demand an explanation.
