So I nipped in to the Tesla dealership

  • They should offer a gas powered "power pack" trailer for charging on the go for extended trips..

Seriously, and it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies, The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C.S. • The tech really is not there.... there.. I said it. I am not a bleeding edge kinda guy... not big on being a martyr. Of course the more they sell the better they will get. Because the people making the batteries will learn more with more money... same for the motors and the charging systems and the....everything.

Wake me up when they get cheap enough to make it worthwhile. Look... buy an electric car... for say 50k... not gonna get any used ones yet. Buy an old clunker that gets 25 mpg. but you only paid 3-5k for it. the payments on the electric car are gonna be WAY more than gas costs.... and even if you wear out a clunker or two before the electric dies (not counting some incidentals that will be costly) .... you are still gonna be way the fuck cheaper running the conventional car.

  • Guy I know (vaguely) has a prenus... the newer ones... I think him and I drive about the same miles a month average for a year. he was bragging his fuel costs were $20 a month. Mine run $80 a month... His car payment is over $400 a month... along with maximum insurance (full coverage)... my car payments are zero and my insurance is half his.

  • Yeah but... If they could come up with a $12k sedan that doesn't look like a pretentious asshole owns it that'll go 60 miles on a charge I'd be all over it. My jeep only burns about $12 worth of gas a week going to and from work but if I....

I can't remember where I was going with this...

  • Thing is.... conventional vehicles including turbo diesel cars are getting in the 40+ mpg range. and most look like normal cars. cause... well... they are normal cars and not a virtue signaling bullshitter.

You can buy used cars that are getting over 35mpg easy... closer to 40.

  • I think the bank bailout was needed.

I think it was too but I don't think the coin should have been gifted to them, I think it should have been in the form of loans and going rate interest.

  • I'm not sure if it was a reward so much as a parachute. I think the whole thing sucked, but it had to be done. It's not just the banks that took advantage and it was not just the banks that would have splattered on the ground.

^ This, as it's probably as true as anything. It wasn't just mortgages on the line, but a whole lot of businesses, large and small were as well.

  • Kind of like what colleges did when they changed the student loan plans.
