New games/DCS thread/forum

  • Another new Hornet video - looks great, can't wait, I hope this and the F14 come out in the next few months, or at least go pre-whatever. Carrier ops with them, and the assault carrier with Harrier, will keep me busy for a long time.

    Now this is exciting.

  • That's actually a really interesting question, I bet Russian would know as he beta tests/etc for them IIRC, but he's been AFK for quite a while, probably deployed somewhere I'd guess. I'll post that in the ED forums, I've known Wags since my friend Carl Norman hired him, I've got other stuff I wanted to ask too. They are going pretty great IMO, a lot of cool shit coming, I'll dance a jig the day the F14 comes out, and be almost as happy with the Hornet and Harrier. DevilDogGamer on Youtube (he's done AH3 reviews too) has advanced beta of the Harrier and has posted a video on it, it looks fantastic, and is hard as hell apparently, which is good, I don't want a simple sim from DCS, I have AH3 and others for that niche already.

I haven't opened my email to get my Friday DCS update yet, this is a great surprise Danneskjold posted.

  • Review numbers are stagnating just over 100. Only 53% recommend it, which isn't an unreasonable number after controlling for fanbois and the people that loathe hitech.

Without a major UI fix, plug & play xbox controls, instant click & go match making, etc, etc, it's going to continue to struggle.

  • That and HTC blows

  • Now they changed everything, as they no longer have .cfg files one can edit to correct a mistake as they are all .lua files. GODDAMMIT!

Lemme say that again... I don't care. If. The accusations against Trump. Are factual. Or not.

  • Both for now, hopefully they merge them as promised soon. VR they both work a bit differently in terms of performance IMO, but they have different fields/maps, so get both, and get all the terrains too if you can afford them, the Nevada and Normandy downloads are what I specifically mean.

  • CRAP!

I fucked up my video settings and can't correct them.

I need 3 screens and only 1 is checked, and the SOB is too big to change and hit ok, because the OK button is gone!

Also I lost all my settings for the Warthog HOTAS!

  • Extremely realistic.

    Hard learning curve.

Extensively researched for each Aircrafts flight characteristic and avionics.

Unless modded, you start whatever Aircraft cold. Tho there are a few ways to start running.

Graphics are outstanding, especially for up to date computers.

Not cheap moneywise. Tho just downloading you can get a few aircraft. Look for the sales.

  • If you liked Falcon 4, DCS is a great game. Be ready to handle boredom, and it can be hard to put together a game, and your numbers will be relatively small.

If you want to play a much more simplified game with some realism and arcade easy mode, but good action sometimes, AH is where it's at.

  • Do some research on Blue Flag DCS server, it's got its own comms setup, its own GCI/Awacs capabilities, so much cool ass shit, Youtube's Ralfidude has fricking amazing videos of how it all works. I'm a newb so far as online DCS/Blue Flag/others servers/etc goes, but there is a massive, huge community of extremely complex, yet easy enough to learn, state of gaming out there. Now that I have a lot more free time, I'll be getting into it more, big time.

32 players per side on Blue Force's server, 64 total, there are AI units in the game too IIRC, particularly ground AA/A2 SAM units etc. I know there are guys here who use the Rift and play DCS PvP and know a lot more than I do about it, but again, I'll be playing a lot in the coming winter months, and will figure it out as I go.

More info - Ralfidude's Blue flag A10 video has excellent info in it, right from the start of the video, re Blue Flag, and other servers out there too. Watch it if you watch any, but his F5 and other F15 videos on his channel are a great source of info about what online/pvp DCS is all about.

My favorite DCS module, Canada built the best F5 variant made by Canadair, and many still are in service, including with the USNs aggressors. The video attack run starts at about 17:00 if you want to watch just that part.
