Let the WAR begin! (MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAaaaaa) glock vs 1911

  • Probly the closest thing to that 9.3 here would be a 358 norma mag. Those never been fired only dropped once mausers converted to ought six would be nice tho.

Both the 1911 and the mauser are 'oudated' to equip an army say but both could still do a job as a specialty weapon even in the military. And neither are outdated for civilian use. They sell a lot of bolt action guns.. most are some sort of a take on the mauser action. dozens of companies make 1911's every day and sell a lot of em... there are hundreds of custom gunsmiths making 1911's also on the higher end.

both guns are still around because both are great timeless designs. There may be one or two American shooters around who have not tried a 1911 or variant... but.. I doubt it.

razer... what would be a good age to start sending old fucks to the museum? 54 seems like about the end of the line for most.

  • My brother has my dads sporterized Spanish Mauser in 7x57mm woe unto the blue hatter that comes within 500m and that is without us being sniper trained.

The same goes for my Ruger Mk77 in .30-06.

  • My biz in the early 2000s distributed Schmidt/Bender optics. I have a fixed 10x 30mm Police Marskman model on my 20" LTR 308 rifle. It came with the goofy metric calibrated turrets, so I switched them out for MOA, which I was using before converting to the mil adjusting turrets like everyone else did about 10 years ago, so I have to be careful and really focus on my dope data and data book when shooting it. Great glass, it was very expensive though, about 30% more than a comparable NightForce (my pref, we were the first Canadian distributor for them too, and I have 1/2 dozen NF scopes) or Leupold/whatever. It was just an extra scope we had which I mounted on my "short" precision rifle as I didn't have anything else at the time to use for it.

  • Yes, I'm very happy with my S&B. Mine is a 3-12x50mm MPII and I bought it as a general purpose scope for my rifles. I mostly use it on my .223 Howa, plinking at the range and shooting grouse and other small game in the hills. It's a bit ridiculous on my "heavy scout" M98. Yeah I know it's far too heavy for a real scout rifle, but with the barrel cut down to 50 cm it is about the right size. Very handy. When I'm down south hunting in the forests I just use an 1.5x ACOG. No need for a huge scope when the animal literally stumbles out of the bushes 20-30 yards away from you.

  • Ok... I know those rails are actually handy but damn man... it really uglies up that rifle... I mean almost as much as you sawing off the forend with your UN commando knife.

  • That last picture, that's roughly where the scout scope on my Mosin 91/30 sits...and it thus forces me to lower the butt way down below where a rifle would normally sit in order to view the scope...hurts like hell

Well it certainly aint one of your engraved pimp-pistols, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Oh? I have to raise my head just a little when shooting with the bare stock. Why I put on the raised padding shown in the first picture, and a Morgan recoil pad.

  • You could say that. This is my el cheapo army surplus bush gun. Without the optics, suppressor and other bolt on doodads I've maybe spent 3-400 bucks on it. Mostly in labor. It's utilitarian, not artwork.

  • Hell, the sling I use on it is from an M1 carbine... How much more basic can you get?

  • Well... you said you paid $12 for it and it was mint. I believe you but that is no reason to ugly it up. it costs nothing to work over the stock for instance.. Don't get me wrong... I like the rifle. I would have kept it ought six tho cause that is a very popular caliber here and ought six mauser conversions are kinda rare.

I still would not hire an out of work beaver to chew the end of the stock off....

  • The stock is a laminated wood surplus KV67 stock, and that's what laminated wood looks like. The KV67 was a sniper conversion of the M98 done by Kongsberg back in the '60s. I paid nothing for it. Traded it for the original stock. It's lighter and has a much better grip than the original K98k stock (for hunting/sharpshooting). I've oiled it to get it darker, but that's all I've done to it.

Originally it looked like this (not my gun):

  • I'm amazed you managed to get anything. What a dumbfuck.
