Trump told Putin that if he went into the Ukraine, he'd bomb the shit out of the Kremlin. Putin bidened his time. Trump also told Germany that their lack of defense and dependance on Russian fuel would fuel Russian aggression. They laughed at him.

Reason did not drive this decision. The painfully obvious facts in front of them did not motivate Germany to do the very things necessary for their own survival. It wasn't until world leadership became inept enough to allow Russia to mobilize again that they started listening to Trump's advice.

This is where we are, today.

  • The only reason Germany didn't obliterate Russia in 1942 was because of Anglo-American intervention on behalf of Russia

  • Even though Russia under Putin has proven itself aggressive Germany and the rest of Europe are probably less afraid of it now than before this latest aggression against Ukraine.

We gave them some nice stuff and a load of outdated cold war stuff and the Ruskies struggled against the cold war stuff, hell they struggle AGAINST THE DECADES OLD STUFF THEY GAVE THEM!

  • If Russia invaded Germany I think Russia wouldn't last a week. Even without NATO.

The German army is a shell of what it was at the end of the Cold War. It wasn't long ago that Germany was in the news because of the poor shape it's army is in, at the time, less than 200 Leopard II's were serviceable compared to 2155 in 1993. There are plenty of sources to back up the claim that the German army held field exercises where some of the soldiers carried broom sticks instead of guns.

If Germany had the same quantity/quality military they had in '93 your statement would likely be correct. Today Germany would only win because of NATO help, specifically American units.

I think you're right on this. We gave all kinds of stuff to Uncle Joe via Lend Lease.

    We should've taken Patton's advice.

  • Russia is in disarray as well. Germany has increased its military spending recently but the Fulda gap is still there.

  • We've seen what Russia can do. They are now relying on Iran for weapons. Germany does have some military capability and the ability to ramp up fast. I suspect their war making morale is far superior to Russia's. Strikes between capital cities today are not like they were in WWII. Weapons of all sorts can reach out a lot further and a lot faster now than then.

But it's all hypothetical and very unlikely to happen.
