Wife wants a new washer/dryer. The current one is 20 years old, but it still works. So we checked out what is available and options. I asked one of the sales guys if they have anything like the set we have (it is a stacking unit). The sales guys said oh no, you can't get them like that anymore. The ones that they make now only last 5-10 years. So, I said, shouldn't it be possible to make things better? Why wouldn't someone make a washer/dryer that lasts a long time? He said that the manufacturers sell more if they don't last as long and so they want people to switch them out often like people do with cell phones. He said the new washers and dryers also need more servicing than the older ones. I said whaaaaat? So I have been doing a little more leg work checking things out and it appears the guy might be right about that. Also it is getting hard to find a washer/dryer that doesn't require you to have it connected to an app on your cell phone. We don't want that.
Anybody have any suggestions? Thinking of buying a wash rack and tub to do the laundry to protest but the wife ain't going for that.
