  • 26 you guys still playing DCS World ?

I'm working on learning how to script things for missions.

For example, I have a mission set up on the Syrian map. Blue forces have access to the Mirage F1 and the F-5E on Cyprus and Incirlik, Turkey. Red forces have access to MiG-19's and MiG-21's from two different bases in Syria. All four bases are protected by 1 SAM battery and 1 15 gun AAA battery each. All air defense units skill levels are set to Excellent, which is max.

What I'm looking into doing next is to ensure that people have things to do even if no one else is on the server. You can make it so enemy aircraft spawn when someone logs in and chooses a side. You can also randomize the flight path/altitude/skill level of the enemy aircraft so it's different each time.

Then once the server with it's first mission is up it will be time to start making JooToob videos and promoting the server.

  • I still make shitty DCS videos and post links on that other forum. The last few are just AI because I had a problem and have my controls disconnected to help isolate. Was studying the behavior of the SA-2 and SA-3 sites.

  • Once I figure out how to do those things I'll be able to replicate that behavior for all kinds of things.

I'll be making dubya dubya too missions also. DCS currently offers the Mosquito, Spiffire Mk IX, Peefitty1 Dee, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109K-4, FW-190A-8 and the FW-190D-9. There are others offered as AI units like the B-17G for example.

Almost 3 years ago (iirc) they announced the development of the F4U Corsair. We're still waiting.

I forgot...we have the I-16. It doesn't have trim controls and seems difficult to fly but I did kill a 109 with it, I hit it with one bullet and then got a maneuver kill. ;)

  • I'm about to build a new PC as my current one can't run the new MS Flight Simulator or Windows 11. I'll refurb my CH controls (have new pots) and clean 'em out good too.

Eagle Dynamics recommends you run DCS from an SSD drive and my DCS folder is over 400g right now. I'm looking at saving for at least a 2TB nvme and possibly larger. I have a 1TB now with 332g free but I'm starting to get a bit nervous. ;)

Please, allow me this tidbit of advice, unless you only plan on flying WWII aircraft you are going to want, nay....need access to a lot more buttons than your CH gear has. If you can avoid it, don't purchase a Saitek stick, they're junk these days. (I have one.) You probably want a Warthog or better.

  • I think Razbam is getting very close with their F-15E and Heatblur has said they are confident their F-4E will be this year.

We have the F-15C so I'm not sure about buying the E, yet. The F-4E Phantom though, I already have my coin set aside for the prepurchase.

  • The C is not fully modeled though and it is one of the oldest mods.

I won't argue that point but will counter with one of my own.

The C will undoubtably be easier to fly with far less work in the cockpit and is a very good choice when you want to fly but don't necessarily want it to be complicated.

I'll probably end up with the E eventually if for no other reason than for my YouTube channel. I can say that about a few aircraft actually. lol

  • Yeah, no doubt the C, even if fully modeled, would be easier. I like a mud moving mission though and nothing does it better than the Strike Eagle.

I was never much for taking bases and tool shedding in Aces High or AirWarrior but I'll admit to some satisfaction when I successfully dropped a spread of Mk-20 Rockeyes on a set of hangers.
