astromech After doing quite a bit of research, the only people I see setting up bottle jack presses use compressed air to speed things up. The bottle jacks aren't fast enough without the air assist to be useful.

So what I did do was get a kit to assemble a Treadle Hammer. Basically a foot stomp swings a sledge hammer with a spring on top. I've got to build the stand, but I've got to figure out if I want to wheel it over my anvil, or build it's own anvil.

Past that, there's a custom kitchen knife out the door to a famous floridian. I'll get better pictures when it stops raining.

Bad weather and my day job delayed this til today.

Set it up so I could hang it out of the way, too.

I investigated all options. A home built power hammer that uses a tire to drive it starts at $2,500. And it would have to be indoors.

Talking to Storch and Astro about options, this was basically the only thing that I could build for my outside forge... without having to assemble and take apart some contraption every time.

I'm going to try to make a hammer or 2 out of this 4140 I bought. It's only 1.5"x1.5", though. The treadle hammer will help quite a bit.

Still waiting to hear back on the price for the spatulas.

Will have weld up a steel treadle.

I've got steel plate sitting around. Don't have steel pipe anywhere near. Like I've said, I'm in a bit of a steel desert around here. The only steel distributors nearby are in Philadelphia (which is an hour away and needs an armed escort [Bradleys, Abrams, Strikers, and the sort]), or an hour in the other direction.

Still has to be cleaned up, but wanted to do a sanity check before finishing it up. It's very heavy. I may skeletonize it a bit just to cut the weight down.
