Home Prices

  • Same here in Idaho. Since we moved back to south Idaho (Meridian) 4 1/2 years ago prices have doubled. Lot of young and not so young people very unhappy. I don't like the higher property taxes but like the extra money my wife can take should I die before her and she moves in with a daughter or gets an apartment.

  • I don't know how new young families can start out these days

They can't. And that is what the Socialists cry about every day. Only thing I agree with them about is that Housing is totally unaffordable to the Middle and lower classes now. And because We have a paid for house, they claim "WE" are the cause. Wait....WHAT?

Lemme say that again... I don't care. If. The accusations against Trump. Are factual. Or not.

Ditto - funny enough that IMO the socialists are mostly to blame for this predicament too, and certainly to blame for the problem to start getting even worse now.

  • Some of it is by design. The commies want us all put into little boxes in shithole cities. People in little boxes in shit hole cities depend on government and don't think like individuals.

The lot is most of the cost these days here. If a lot costs $120k it is pretty hard to build a $200 house. The cost of the lot is tied to all the fees and taxes on it. Shared wall housing used to be popular last time the prices went batshit. I imagine they will be again. or 'row houses' like the cities used to have.

  • My Son works with a part time realtor. The realtor said in 2005-2008 people were buying homes they could not afford with no down payment and high interest rates. This time he said people are buying homes that they can afford and with down payments. He also said these folks normally keep a home about 6-7 years. In the current situation home values will eventually decline. What this mean when they get ready to sell they'll be lucky to break even.

  • Government spending relative to GDP will drive inflation. We're seeing it rise now at an increasing rate. Only time will tell just how much and whether it will continue to accelerate.

  • Ok... went for my walk. Within 2 blocks of my house are two really nice upscale apartment complexes. The parking areas full of upscale cars. One is in a horseshoe street that gets no traffic really and is within walking distance to a safeway/mall and parks. There are more parks per person here than anywhere. Trees everywhere. These apartments are two small bedrooms and two baths. $1500 a month or a bit more. this is great for a person and a room mate. Or a couple with no child care costs. These things were half that price 10 years ago. Duplexes here are more than that but you get a garage and a yard.

Your monthly payment for a home here with taxes and water garbage..... is gonna run in the $3k or more a month arena with a good down payment. I know a few people paying $4k a month house payment.

My Pile of shit place is worth $600k no questions asked. would most likely be a bidding war like on the lesser duplex that sold a few months ago for $675K

  • According to my daughter up north everything is going for well above asking and cash is king. Inspections are a thing of the past. She is a Century 21 real estate agent so I trust what she says.

  • She doesn't really like living out in the sticks and her husband has agreed to move if she still wants to after they've lived there 2 years. Sell before then and you must pay capital gains. Hoping they'll move down here.

  • Me too!

She hears about mountain lions and people let their dogs loose. She doesn't want to deal with that.

Their satellite internet sucks too and their teenage son can't do any online gaming and complains. Personally I think that's a reason to stay in the sticks. They are on the waiting list for Starlink.
