Build your own DVR?

Was talking with a friend today, turns out Starlink will become available at my mountainous locale in SW VA sometime next year. If the hype is correct, it'll be about $100 a month for ACTual high speed internet over satellite WITH low latency (gaming) If that allows 50-75 gigs or so per month, we'll trash Direct TV and use just the Firestick or something (Hopefully some method will allow us to view local channels)

THEN, it occurred to me there's no method of recording, wondering if there's open source stuff that allows me to build a pc that can do that?

Yeah, had pondered there's no way to record what goes over roku/firestick, unless there's a decent way to record whatever comes thru the hdmi cable

You'd THINK so, but we're a few miles from the edge, with high ground on three sides. The only way we get a modicum of cell service is a 25' pole with an omni-directional antenna thatt attached at the apex of our roof, which is 35' up

Need to have something like line of sight, just isn't there. Everyone who lives near us tries it, surrenders, get satellite
