Tesla charging stations at local mall

  • I was reading about some smart dude who has patented a new type of flywheel with magnets. They can be timed to pulse at TDC and BDC and act as a electromagnetic assist to the engine. Said to be great for small 2 strokes/4 strokes and also in the automotive field.

The dude will likely be disappeared..... and we'll never hear about the idea again, dude is a yank too.

Back in the 80's in Cass City Michigan the Company Walbro fitted a 2 stroke motor in a ford escort. I knew a guy who worked on it and he said that thing was awesome. Great mileage and power. They drove the thing all over the country including The UP in the middle of winter. And around death valley in the summer. Then they just shut the program down and scrapped the car. He never understood why. I suspect it was much the same as why GM scrapped the EV1 and shit canned years of research.

  • Autopilot is not to he used hands free, Tesla will tell you that. And have you seen some of the crashes that people have walked away from in Teslas? Probably not because you just can't stand to look at the good in them.

Probably shouldn't call it an autopilot then, because the customers are not listening.

That overweight, battery tray skateboard design that makes them safe-ish is also the culprit behind the famous Tesla Whompy Wheel.

$250,000 appreciating asset right there. Just 1 OTA update away.

Saw an old volvo that was converted to use a V6 merc outboard engine, sounded awesome and went like a scared cat. Not practicle but one hell of a drag car. The tuned exhaust was a thing of beauty in itself.

Might be a utube vid on it IIRC.

  • wouldn't happen to have a link, would ya?

  • Curly... that is the thing with all electric cars on the market. You can buy one hell of a lot of gas for what you pay for one and lose in depreciation....

Depends on what you buy. Used sure, new not so much. I asked the sales guy who buys an loaded $80,000 Expedition, he said not many. Most lease for 2 years, dealerships get them back and sell for $45,000. So that's close to 50% depreciation in 2 years. Not sure what the expeditions were new 2 years ago but they average about $30,000 now.

You can go 7 years on a new car loan now. That mean you'll own more than the vehicle is worth in 2 years or less. And that's ALL NEW VEHICLES.

  • Pulled into TC last night for a show and sitting at a light next to me was a Tesla followed by a Bentley followed by another Tesla.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies, The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C.S. Lewis

  • Power generation and infrastructure will have to keep up with demand. Germany has nearly doubled its power generation since 2002.

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

  • Also all of Europe is interconnected. We sell a lot of hydro power to other European countries when they need extra juice. Every year we export something on the order of 2,000 TWh of power to other countries. Given that one TWh is a million MWh and New York City consumes on average 11,000 MWh per day so 2,000 TWh would run New York for nearly 500 years... A city that has twice the population of Norway. Noway has an enormous energy generation surplus. After oil it is our biggest export.

Denmark too is growing fast as an energy exporter. On a windy day wind turbines alone produce 140% of Denmark's power needs. That's amazing really.

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

  • Germany has built nearly 30,000 wind turbines over the last few years. They seem very serious about it...

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

  • We have wind farms near me... for some reason it seems like half of the windmills are down at any one time.

I think offshore windmills more or less make sense... by the time they get em figured out price point wise tho someone will come up with tide power generation.. It's all getting better tho.... solar is getting better.... we have more natural gas than ever before... more oil.

The doom and gloom of the 70's where we would use up all the energy in the world and be using candles for lighting by now? well....
